Maple Leaf Farm (MLF) provides medically monitored detoxification services and residential treatment for substance dependency. It is our policy to offer treatment to all people that apply for admission who meet our criteria. All persons who wish to enter addictions treatment at MLF need to complete a telephone interview. This intake procedure takes approximately 20 minutes. It assists us in determination of the patient’s eligibility for treatment, medical and psychiatric stability, and addresses other external factors that may affect treatment, such as legal issues. Financial responsibility information is also gathered at this time.
In complex situations, the Admissions Specialists will consult with members of the treatment team, particularly in cases of prior treatment at MLF, questions regarding psychiatric stability, issues of risk to self or others and other factors that may affect our ability to provide appropriate treatment to the applicant, or to ensure the safety of the applicant, patients, staff or the general community.
Upon completion of pre-screening and determination of eligibility, patients are scheduled for admission. In instances where there is a wait list, an applicant may be given a potential admission date in the future. It is important to understand that the date may change, if, for example, someone else does not come in for admission (creating an earlier opening), or a current patient’s stay is extended. While we try to communicate any changes to applicants, sometimes we are unable to contact them. We encourage individuals given a potential admissions date in the future to call in advance to verify the day and time.
Admission Criteria
To be eligible for admission to MLF a person must have a diagnosis of substance dependence and be in need of medically monitored intensive inpatient treatment as outlined in the ASAM placement criteria Level III.7. In brief, the criteria describe "patients whose sub-acute biomedical and emotional, behavioral or cognitive problems are so severe that they require inpatient treatment, but who do not need the full resources of an acute care general hospital or a medically managed inpatient treatment program.”
Candidates must be 18 years of age or older.
Candidates must be willing and able to participate in a rigorous program that is intense, structured and cognitively oriented; and requires extensive group and classroom situations that demand focus and concentration.
Ineligibility for Admissions
By virtue of the program design and staffing capabilities, the following patients are not eligible for admission:
1. People with complicated medical or psychiatric diagnoses beyond the scope of services at MLF.
2. Individuals who have a conflict of interest with MLF staff or another resident(s) that prevents effective treatment at this facility.
3. People with a history of the following:
a. Reported history of significant psychopathology; e.g. active suicidality or psychosis;
b. Reported pattern of violence, when not under the influence of mood-altering substances;
c. Significant cognitive impairment that precludes participation in the treatment program;
d. Significant medical impairment that precludes participation in the treatment program;
e. Rape or other sexual crime;
f. Arson.
4. Individuals under corrections supervision who are serving a jail sentence in the community (i.e. furlough).
We are committed to assisting individuals struggling with the disease of chemical addiction. If for one of the above reasons someone is ineligible for admission at MLF, we will attempt to refer them to a more suitable outpatient or inpatient program.
