Treatment Program  -  Stage 1 - Primary Care

Each patient spends one to seven days in the Primary Care unit. This is a period of intensive observation, assessment and, when required, detoxification, all of which takes place in a comfortable, home like setting. Facets of this care include:
  • Physical assessment including an in-depth medical history.
  • Psychosocial evaluation.
  • The patient's vital signs are carefully monitored and medication is dispensed as needed, whether it is for detoxification or as a continuation of ongoing psychopharmacology.
  • Around the clock nursing services supplied by a staff of RNs and LPNs trained in addictions treatment and detoxification. Our two dedicated physicians are on 24 hour call.
  • Psychiatric consultation and evaluation needed.
Important to new arrivals is the gradual introduction to patient community life, individual and group therapy, and the disease concept of chemical addiction, dependent on patient physical and emotional status. Included is education on the detoxification process, medication - purpose and side effects of surrounding medical issue.

Patients may be admitted simply for detoxification as a prelude to outpatient continuing care.

Individual treatment plans are developed for all Primary Care patients upon admission. Upon discharge from MLF a continuing care plan is formulated and appropriate referrals are made.
